Lambeth Labour recently opened International House in Brixton as the largest affordable workspace in Europe. This former council building is now home to businesses and charities at affordable rates, creating 850 jobs in the Borough. International House is the first Living Wage accredited building in the UK, paying all workers in the building at least the London Living Wage.
Cllr Matthew Bennett, Cabinet Member for Cabinet Member for Planning, Investment & New Homes, spoke to BBC London News about the project. This has happened as part of the Your New Town Hall project, which reduced the council’s buildings from 14 down to 2, is saving £4.5 million per year, has delivered over 200 new homes in central Brixton and has dramatically reduced the council’s carbon emissions.
