Long standing members will probably remember a very long in the tooth campaign that councillors, residents, the Campaign for Real Ale and long-standing member Valerie Farnell conducted to save the much-loved Grosvenor pub on Sidney road. This well-run community pub sadly shut its doors in 2014 despite turning a healthy profit and almost certainly because of a takeover of the lease by a developer. This began a four-year process of campaigning to block various moves to turn the pub into private sector flats. A useful report can be read here.
It is therefore excellent news that the Grosvenor has just now re-opened.
Admittedly, in a different, smaller form, but nevertheless its back on its feet – and its also well worth a visit!
